About Master Tan Yong Pow - a student's perspective

E-mail Print PDF

I came into tai chi in hopes of improving my health and cultivating a more relaxed state of mind. From the first time I stepped into Master Tan's class in 2008, I knew right away that it was going to be worth my commitment. Before that, I had been to other tai chi classes but always felt that my form practice was "empty" and lacked meaning or purpose.  Master Tan taught me things that no other teacher has ever taught me. It's like he has shone a light on this mysterious thing called tai chi and now I understand it so much better. Personally, I feel every single class by Master Tan is precious because there is much to gain and learn.

Master Tan is kind, cheerful and always willing to share his vast knowledge whenever I have any questions. The fact that he is so humble and accessible even though he has achieved a level that other tai chi teachers can only dream of reaching, makes me respect him more. With every form correction, every thoughtful comment or every funny yet philosophical story by Master Tan, I always take away something that can improve my abilities and my way of thinking. I don't believe for a second that I have found out everything about Master Tan's brand of tai chi and always look forward to spending more time with him.

I am sure not many people can say all that about their tai chi teacher. Therefore I consider myself extremely lucky and proud to be Master Tan's student. And since noticing a huge improvement in my health and even other aspects of my life thanks to Master Tan, I certainly plan to continue practising for the rest of my life.

From an ever thankful student,
Adeline Loh
